What is a HEPA filter?

HEPA – High Efficiency Particulate Air filter designed to trap 99.97% of particles with size of 0.3 microns. HEPA filters can eliminate dust, mold, pollen, bacteria, dander and any airborne particles with size of 0.3 microns.

Microns (µm), are one-millionth of a meter – the human eye cannot see anything less than 10 microns.

When we talk about air pollution, we tend to think of something related to outside and forget about the quality of air inside our homes. Indoor air pollution sources are dirt, inadequate ventilation, humidity, temperature factor, fuel burning, tobacco products, pesticides usage and outdoor pollution etc.

Indoor air pollution can contribute to allergies, asthma and other respiratory disorders. Usage of appropriate air purifier can help you around and here comes question of selecting the right filter.

And according to the EPA, the levels of indoor air pollutants are often 2 to 5 times higher than outdoor levels. In other words, sometimes the air inside can be more harmful than the air outside.

How do HEPA filters work?

HEPA filters consists of glass or plastic fibers twisted and turned into a mat which traps the particles passing through this web of fibers.

These filters are designed to target smaller airborne pollutants, their efficiency is derived by the dimension of fibers and filter thickness.

What is a HEPA filter

HEPA filter depending on the size of the particle, apply four different techniques to trap the particles. Large particles either collide with fibers or while attempting to go through the fibers gets trapped via Direct Impact or Sieving. The medium size particles are ceased through Interception and smallest of all via Diffusion.

Advantages of HEPA Filter

  • HEPA filter traps large and small airborne particles, giving back clean air to breathe healthy.
  • HEPA filters greatly improves the indoor air quality, eliminates dust, mold, pet dander, pollen, bacteria and smoke.
